So You Want to Art?
All of the tutorials, references, artwork, etc. featured here were not created by me. This is just an area for people to find anything related to helping others improve their art skills.
Please do not hesitate to submit or notify me of resources and tutorials for anything relating to art you can imagine will help people in their improvement of art. Since art is such a subjective and vague term, this can mean anything from writing to cosplay to cooking to even home construction.

My old tutorial! Wanna share it with you)

Oh, this is infinitely superior to the usual ‘uhhh if u make ur character a triangle face we wont trust them’ crap.

little art tip: the position of the ears on a human does a lot to communicate the angle of the head—whether it’s tilted forward or back.

tilted back with the chin forward, the ears are going to look lower down, closer to the mouth; tilted forward with the chin tucked, the ears look higher up & more in line with the eyes.

Sorry I’m not hijacking, but this is a really good tip if people don’t know this. Like it does look really strange at first, but it is more realistic than drawing them in the centre of the side plane of the head. So it looks like this;;;

great addition, thanks!

Thanks very much!! I’m not entirely sure what you’re asking but I hope this helps ;;

So our faces are shaped the way they are because it’s skin and muscle draped over an underlying structure aka our skull. Spooky!

This looks eerily similar to the typical ball/crosshair/etc face frame… because it is lol. If you’re having trouble with the cheek you can mark in the area where the cheekbones are as a reference point when setting up your face.

If you don’t want all your people to look like Benedict Cumberbatch all you have to do is draw a curve from the edge of the cheekbone down to the chin.

UMM for necks I think the basic thing you should know is that there are 2 strips of muscle that come out from behind the ear and wrap around to attach to your sternum. Usually people simplify it to 2 lines on the neck like in your favorite animu but now you know what it really means!

Please let me know if this was completely off the mark from what you were asking lol ;;; BUT UM YES

*cough* pardon the typos. Wish Photoshop had a spellcheck. XD

OK this was super super quick I just had some thoughts rolling around in my head so I felt I’d get them out. This isn’t really a ‘tutorial”, just thoughts and comments. If I were to make a tutorial it’d have a lot more content (and more females/different angles), but I felt I’d just put this out here for what it’s worth.

I am no expert on these things and constructive criticism is always encouraged.

Clarification: It is ok and perfectly fine to give your female-identifying characters makeup (and, of course, others.) But you should draw them without makeup and develop their appearance that way before adding on makeup if that’s what the character generally wears. The idea is to make them recognizable as women even without makeup. (Unless the character herself isn’t easily recognizable/generally observed as a woman without makeup, as part of her intentional design. Just make it intentional, is all I’m saying.)
